Violin Lessons

Teaching has always been a great passion and a very important part of music for me.

I have a lot of varied teaching experience: at a youth conservatory for 8 years in the UK (North London Conservatoire), my own private class of students ranging from children to adults, in University settings, teaching at the University of East Anglia Music Centre (UK), tutoring music academy students, as well as giving masterclasses (Oxford University). I have also given numerous workshops and masterclasses at primary and secondary schools as well as music schools in England, Scotland, Belgium and France.

If you are interested in lessons please use the contact information on the contact page, I’d love to hear from you and discuss studying with me.

Teaching philosophy

While I focus on classical training in technique and repertoire, I have a wide interest in all kinds of music, I play other instruments such as the guitar, drums, mandolin, viola, piano and I compose and regularly record music.

Musical expression and shaping an artistic view in my students is my highest priority. This includes learning about harmony, rhythm, phrasing and being creative.

My main focuses are:

  • Tailored lessons to individual goals, abilities and interest
  • Making studying the violin an enjoyable and rewarding music making experience
  • Teach how to efficiently improve
  • Teach how to become one’s own teacher when at home practising
  • Fostering creativity
  • Providing a dynamic music making environment, including duet playing and creative music making in my lessons

As a teacher, one of my main aims is to empower students by developing effective practice strategies and routines. I emphasize understanding musical intentions, structure, and harmony, guiding students to craft their own compelling musical narratives. With recording experience as both a performer and audio engineer/ producer, I encourage using the recording process to help students find areas for improvement and develop their interpretations. While building a diverse repertoire and understanding of styles from early music to contemporary is important, I also encourage creativity through improvisation and composition. I also like incorporating duet playing regularly, both for sight-reading practice and to foster a dynamic and engaging learning environment.
